Machine learning focuses on the development of computer programs that can access data and use it to learn for themselves.The process of learning begins with observations or data, such as examples, direct experience, or instruction, in order to look for patterns in data and make better decisions in the future based on the examples that we provide. The primary aim is to allow the computers to learn automatically without human intervention or assistance and adjust actions accordingly.In order to permit the software to autonomously produce results, the preceding act of people is essential. For example, the essential algorithms and data requisite are fed into the systems in advance and the corresponding analysis guidelines for the acknowledgement of outlines in the statistics stock must be defined. Types of Machine Learning

Basically, algorithms play an important role in Machine Learning: On the one hand, they are responsible for recognizing patterns and on the other hand, they can generate solutions. Algorithms can be divided into different categories:

Supervised learning

In the course of monitored learning, example models are defined in advance. In order to ensure adequate allocation of the information to the respective model groups of the algorithms, these then have to be specified. In other words, the system learns on the basis of given input and output pairs. In the course of monitored learning, a programmer, who acts as a kind of teacher, provides the appropriate values for a particular input. The aim is to train the system in the context of successive calculations with different inputs and outputs and to establish connections.

Unsupervised learning

In unsupervised learning, artificial intelligence learns without predefined target values and without rewards. It is mainly used for learning segmentation (clustering). The machine tries to structure and sort the data entered according to certain characteristics. For example, a machine could (very simply) learn that coins of different colours can be sorted according to the characteristic "colour" in order to structure them.

Partially supervised learning

Partially supervised learning is a combination of supervised and unsupervised learning.

Encouraging learning

Reinforcing learning - just like Skinner's classic conditioning - is based on rewards and punishments. The algorithm is taught by a positive or negative interaction in which reaction to a certain situation should take place.

Active learning

Within the framework of active learning, an algorithm is given the opportunity to query results for specific input data on the basis of pre-defined questions that are considered significant. Usually, the algorithm itself selects questions with high relevance.In general, the data basis can be either offline or online, depending on the corresponding system. In addition, it can be available only once or repeatedly for Machine Learning. Another distinguishing feature is the either staggered development of the input and output pairs or their simultaneous presence. On the basis of this aspect, a distinction is made between so-called sequential learning and so-called batch learning.

Augmented and virtual reality has one big thing in common. They both have the remarkable ability to alter our perception of the world. Where they differ, is the perception of our presence. Virtual reality is able to transpose the user. In other words, bring us someplace else. Through closed visors or goggles, VR blocks out the room and puts our presence elsewhere. The terms "virtual reality" and "augmented reality" get thrown around a lot these days, thanks to the resurgence of VR headsets heralded by the Oculus Rift and the use of AR apps and games like Pokémon Go. They sound similar, and as the technologies develop, they bleed over into each other a bit. They're two very different concepts, though, with characteristics that readily distinguish them from one another.

What is Virtual Reality?

Virtual Reality (VR) is the use of computer technology to create a simulated environment. Virtual Reality’s most immediately-recognizable component is the head-mounted display (HMD). Human beings are visual creatures, and display technology is often the single biggest difference between immersive Virtual Reality systems and traditional user interfaces. Major players in Virtual Reality include HTC Vive, Oculus Rift and PlayStation VR (PSVR). Unlike traditional user interfaces, VR places the user inside an experience. Instead of viewing a screen in front of them, users are immersed and able to interact with 3D worlds. By simulating as many senses as possible, such as vision, hearing, touch, even smell, the computer is transformed into a gatekeeper to this artificial world. The only limits to near-real VR experiences are the availability of content and cheap computing power. Virtual reality simulation requires two main components: a source of content and a user device. Software and hardware, in other words. Currently, such systems include headsets, all-directions treadmills, special gloves, goggles. VR tools should be providing realistic, natural, high-quality images and interaction possibilities. For this, devices rely on measurements like:
  • Image resolution
  • Field of view
  • Refresh rate
  • Motion delay
  • Pixel persistence
  • Audio / Video synchronization
The main challenge of VR is tricking the human brain into perceiving digital content as real. That is not easy, and this “immersion” issue is what still holds virtual reality experiences back from being enjoyable. For example, the human visual field doesn't work as a video frame, and besides about 180 degrees of vision, we also have a peripheral vision.

Area of use

Virtual Reality has the potential to make new discoveries and have a positive impact on multiple areas of our everyday lives. When it's too dangerous or expensive to try something out in reality, VR is a great option to have. Think of training aircraft pilots to surgeons and areas like:
  • Education: training to acquire certain skills
  • Science: visualization of data and research
  • Medicine: monitoring, training, diagnosing
  • Industrial design and architecture
  • Gaming and entertainment: immersive and interactive experiences

Unlike Virtual Reality (VR), AR does not create the whole artificial environments to replace real with a virtual one. AR appears in a direct view of an existing environment and adds sounds, videos, and graphics to it.A view of the physical real-world environment with superimposed computer-generated images, thus changing the perception of reality, is the AR.The term itself was coined back in 1990, and one of the first commercial uses were in television and military. What’s the difference Between Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality?

Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality are two sides of the same coin. You could think of Augmented Reality as VR with one foot in the real world: Augmented Reality simulates artificial objects in the real environment; Virtual Reality creates an artificial environment to inhabit.In Augmented Reality, the computer uses sensors and algorithms to determine the position and orientation of a camera. AR technology then renders the 3D graphics as they would appear from the viewpoint of the camera, superimposing the computer-generated images over a user’s view of the real world.In Virtual Reality, the computer uses similar sensors and math.
